While osteoarthritis is not a hereditary disease per se, if you have a family member suffering from osteoarthritis, your chances of getting it grows. For one, your average weigh is affected by your genes and being overweight is only a short way from osteoarthritis. Also, you risk having this disease if you put one particular joint under a lot of stress for a long time.

Osteoarthritis is responsible for reduced mobility of the joints of over twenty-one million Americans. It usually affects women above 45 years old, but it can happen also to men. In case of people below the age of 45, osteoarthritis attacks men more often than women.

The good news is that while you may be predisponed to suffer from osteoarthritis, there is much you can do to make this disease to come later and in less severe form. The key to that is staying fit. First, you have to reduce your weight – every pound of fat you don’t have on you is a few months more in good health. That’s why a healthy diet is a must. Then, you need a lot of cardiovascular exercises. They will help you keep a stable weight. More importantly however, keeping your muscles in good shape is essential to reduce the amount of stress put to the joint’s cartilage. Do not overexert yourself though, especially if your joints are already aching. The point is to strengthen the muscles, not to stress your joints too much. Also, make sure that your joints – especially wrists and knees – are protected. Injury,

The one thing that many people forge about is the need of Omega-3 rich diet. These fatty acids, commonly found in fish oil and in flax, are known for their anti-inflammatory effects as well as for their ability to reduce the soreness of the joints affected by osteoarthritis. They are commonly recommended by doctors both for those who already have osteoarthritis and for those who are at risk of having one. As the normal diet does not usually contain enough Omega-3 fatty acids, food supplements such as Omega Daily are often necessary to assure the proper daily intake of Omega-3 fatty acids.

The pain and stiffness are two first signs of osteoarthritis. Do not ignore them! Go to the doctor as soon as you notice stiffness in the joints.

Many people are turning to natural treatment of arthritis to avoid taking medications that have dangers side affects. There are many anti-inflammatory medicines out there that do help arthritis sufferers to cope. However, there are always some risks associated with these drugs. There are natural remedies that have proven helpful to arthritis suffers and give relief without the risk of side affects.

Help Your Body Help Itself

Natural arthritis pain relief supplements are extremely popular nowadays, and the two compounds glucosamine and chondroitin which are found naturally in the body can help in giving pain relief to your joints as well as repairing them. A sulfur compound called MSM is another natural arthritis pain relief and has the same pain relief factors as any other anti-inflammatories, and can reduce swelling to a great extent.

Manganese is a useful natural arthritis pain relief especially for rheumatoid arthritis patients. It is an important antioxidant that helps the enzymes and slows the aging process and is especially effective for osteoarthritis pain relief. Another supplement which is very good for natural arthritis pain relief is niacinamide. This is also known as Vitamin B3 and it tries to maintain the integrity of cells and tissues.

Turmeric and ginger extract are just as powerful as other anti-inflammatories and are extremely good for natural arthritis pain relief in the treatment of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. The best option would be to put together all the supplements and work together as one single complete supplement. There is a special arthritis supplement called Arthrit-Eze, which contains all the natural arthritis relieving nutrients.

Take Care of Your Body

Most people who suffer from arthritis must take some kind of medication in order to cope. However, taking good care of your body can really help relieve much of your suffering as well. Eating right, daily exercise and getting the proper amount of rest will contribute to better help and less suffering. Keep in mind that the type of exercise you do should be based on the type of arthritis you suffer from.

For natural arthritis pain relief exercising is vital, as it helps arthritis patients to increase the flexibility of their joints. It also helps to increase bone vigor and also increases the strength of their muscles and energy levels. In this way they can control their weight and indirectly protect their heart. The patients should not choose exercises programs on their own, but ask their doctor which exercises are recommended for their type of arthritis.

by Andrew John

Rheumatoid arthritis is certainly the most dangerous and severe form of arthritis. It is known to attack both joints and some internal organs including eyes, lungs and heart. The signs of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) include painful joint and eyes inflammations.

The most important thing in all RA treatments is detecting this disease as soon as possible. Unlike other forms of arthritis, RA does most of the damage during first twenty-four months. As there is no cure to this disease, the best thing we can hope for is to stop its progress as soon as possible or at least alleviate the pain and minimize the secondary damage.

The most common drugs used to keep RA in check are Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (so-called NSAID). Some of them can be bought without a prescription, others need to be prescribed by your doctor. As their name suggest, they minimize the negative effects of RA by decreasing the inflammation. They have a similar effect to Omega-3 fatty acids, which are also recommended as a part of the diet. While most of Americans do not include enough Omega-3 fatty acids-rich food (albacore tuna or salmon), it is recommended to use such food supplements as Omega Daily to make up for it.

Another category of anti-RA drugs are BRM (biologic response modifiers). They are extremely effective and try to alleviate the symptoms of the RA by affecting its source – the organism’s response. The only problem is that in many cases they are far too expensive – to the point where most health insurance policies do not cover such treatments.

For those who can’t afford Biologics, there is also much cheaper alternative: DMARD (Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs). While they are very slow-acting, they effectively slow down the RA progress, reducing the damage it does to the bone and joint.

There is also one thing you definitely should start doing as soon as you learn about your RA. This thing is… swimming! The reason for that is simple: you have to strengthen your muscles to limit the stress put to the joints during everyday movements, but you must not overexert your joints as it will only bring more damage to the joints. Swimming is certainly the best low-impact sport to do – it affects all muscles while minimizing the chance of damaging the joints.

The exact reason for rheumatoid arthritis is, so far, unknown. It may be hereditary, but some researchers still consider the possibility of RA being infectious, so no one can really feel safe. As RA does most of the damage very quickly, you need to consult your doctor as soon as you start to suspect that you may have joints inflammations or when you feel the morning stiffness. RA needs to be treated as soon as possible.

Degenerative osteoarthritis is just of the more than one hundred different forms of arthritis that people can suffer from. Degenerative osteoarthritis diagnosed more commonly than most forms of arthritis and is also substantially more difficult to handle than most types of arthritis. It is also frequently referred to as degenerative arthritis, osteoarthritis, and OA.

The joints are the only parts of the body that are affected by degenerative osteoarthritis, which sets it apart from most arthritis diseases. This is because most forms of arthritis also attack the body’s vital organs.

Degenerative osteoarthritis can cause varying symptoms, but more than anything patients experience pain and inflammation around the joints. It can also cause the formation of hard, bony enlargements of the small joints of the fingers.

Since we all need to be use our hands constantly, degenerative osteoarthritis of the hand is an especially difficult issue to deal with. Sadly, this is also quite common. Even though researchers have not yet been able to find out what exactly causes this disease, they have found that previous injuries and some mechanical factors are factors in how the illness both develops and progresses.

Treatment Options

Before you ever start trying to determine which treatment option will be best for you, it is vital that you understand that most people who suffer from arthritis do not a successful way to treat their symptoms for a few months. You must be prepared for this reality before you begin your search.

It usually takes quite a bit of trial and error before the right treatment is found, and you may even have to combine various treatments in order to get the best results.

Prescription medications and natural medicines are the two major categories of treatment option that you have available to you if you are suffering from any type of arthritis, including degenerative osteoarthritis. Each category of treatment comes with different advantages and disadvantages. Both your doctor’s suggestions and your own preference will be what determine which type of treatment you decide to go with.

An exceptionally painful case of arthritis will usually need to be treated by prescription medicine at least at first. Once the intense pain associated with this illness is gotten under control, you may be able to switch over to holistic and natural medicines.

Keep in mind that you are not alone if you are currently suffering from degenerative osteoarthritis. There are literally millions of people in the same situation. You can find support for dealing with this disease from your friends, your family, online chat rooms for arthritis sufferers, and arthritis therapy groups.

by Andrew John

Rheumatoid arthritis is a well-known, so far incurable and very annoying disease. While it is not lethal, the fact that it attacks not only joints, but also some internal organs makes it much more dangerous than any other form or arthritis. What is even worse, this arthritis always affect both sides of the body. While normally people may suffer from pain in only a single joint at the time, rheumatoid arthritis cause inflammation in the same joints in the both sides of the body simultaneously. For example, if this arthritis attacks knees, it will cause the inflammation at the both knees at the same time. As the result, most areas of life that are related with movement or physical activities are seriously affected by the disease.

Currently, there is no way to cure rheumatoid arthritis. Fortunately, there are a few ways to help those who suffer from this disease. From medications that slow down the progress of the disease and get rid of pain to small changes in one’s lifestyle – there are still hundreds of things one can do to make the life a bit easier.

First of all, you must do exercise regularly. Everything that makes joints and muscles stronger is a good thing. While the strength training is sometimes too much to handle, but some cardiovascular training such swimming or jogging will keep the joints and muscles in good shape. Ask your doctor as to what exercises you should do. Generally, you should avoid any heavy lifting and learn how to do exercises properly – the point is to make your joints move, not to overbear them.

Pain, especially at night, and sleeplessness that may accompany it, are two most dangerous direct effects of rheumatoid arthritis. If one does nothing about it, the pain will cause severe stress and lower the natural resistance of the body, making it more prone to other diseases, as well as increase the pace of arthritis progress. That’s why it is imperative to get rid of the pain and ensure that one can sleep undisturbed. As arthritis persists, sleeping pills have to be taken under the strict control of the doctor and painkillers should be avoided whenever possible. Heat and cold will have also a strong calming effect on the joint’s pain with no dangerous long-term side effects painkillers have.

The diet may also have a profound effect on rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 fatty acids are known to improve the condition of joints and seriously reduce the pain felt by those affected with rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 can be found in fish or in food supplements such as Omega Daily.

There are thousands of people who suffer from joint pain every day of their life whether it is due to an injury they have suffered in the past or they are victims of osteoarthritis. Joint pain is not prejudice. It affects all kinds of people, young or old, athletic or not. The pain can be treated with prescription medications. However, the side effects that accompany these drugs can make them a bad choice for long term treatment. That is why people are searching for natural remedies to help them cope daily with their joint pain.

Creams And Supplements

Today there are several creams and supplements available to help joint pain relief. The creams can be used for temporary relief and the supplements can be taken regularly. They are reliable and rarely have side effects. They are made of natural products, for example the emu oil supplements, and can provide joint pain relief for a longer period of time.

Another option for natural relief of arthritis and joint pain is EFT. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique and is a type of emotional acupuncture, no needles involved, that connects energy, emotion and health to work to heal joint pain. It is a technique that can be done individually and is easy to learn. Many people have experienced relief from their joint pain through EFT.

For joint pain relief it is also possible to use a non-powered orthopedic traction device which makes your treatment natural, drug free, convenient and affordable. It is possible to have the device at home and use it just for a few minutes every day. It is especially good for people suffering from sciatica or any pain on your back. You have to lie down on the traction device and you can get instant relief.

Some natural remedies to do have side effects. But it is rare and the effects are rarely serious. If medication is needed, there are some non-prescription medications that you can buy to help relieve your joint pain. Many joint pain sufferers rely on naproxen or ibuprofen when they have serious pain and need more than the natural remedies or supplements.

Side Effects

There is no medication that has absolutely no side effects and there are many variables such as dosage or individual genetic makeup that determine the severity of the effects that medicine will have. The most important thing is to find a treatment that works best for you in relieving your joint pain quickly and with the lowest level of side effects possible.

One person out of nine suffers from osteoarthritis, making it one of the most common chronic diseases among humans. While not lethal, osteoarthritis may seriously impact one’s life and overall health condition. As this form of arthritis affects cartilage, its main effects include stiffness of joints up to the point where it is impossible to move the joint at all, and pain in the joints. Osteoarthritis commonly attack hands, knees, hips and spine, often effectively preventing the patient from actually moving.

As many other chronic diseases, osteoarthritis can’t be really cured. Despite hundreds of research concerning anti-arthritis medications, all we can do now is to slow down the disease or decrease the chance of its appearance.

Staying fit and in good shape is the first thing everyone suffering from osteoarthritis should do. There are three main reasons for that. First, you have to keep your joints from doing more than they can – and being overweight puts an enormous stress on the joints and speed up the cartilage loss. Then, joints work less hard if they are supported by strong muscles. Finally, a good diet will keep your body much less prone to osteoarthritis attacks.

Heat and cold are another means you can use to bring some relief. They are a very effective way of decreasing pain. Heat in a form of a shower or a hot bath are best used in the morning or in the evening is a very effective pain reliever as it increases the blood flow. However, do not use it on sore joints – apply cold instead. Heat will only make the problem worse.

Over-the-counter pain killers such as Acetaminophen are also an acceptable solution for those who do not want to ask their doctors for some prescription drugs. If it doesn’t help though, contact your doctor immediately and ask for some stronger drugs. Just remember to learn about the side-effects – as you are going to take the pills for a long time, you’d better be prepared for all possible problems.

Another thing you may do is to add more Omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. They have the strong anti-inflammatory effect and are often used to treat heart diseases and arthritis. As most of the times it is difficult to create a tasty and varied diet with enough Omega-3 fatty acids, it is often a good idea to rely on the food supplements such as Omega Daily.

The bottom line is: if you have osteoarthritis, stay healthy. Overweight, lack of exercises and bad diet will only speed up the pace of arthritis. Staying fit and keeping your joints safe are two most important things you have to do.

Your prime weapon against osteoarthritis isn’t the doctor’s prescriptions, but remaining fit. A mix of sport, cardiovascular exercises and a healthy diet may do wonders to your condition. Generally, anything that increase your muscles abilities to move joints is good – it reduces stress put on the cartilage and thus slows down the speed of its loss. Every pound of muscles you gain is a year more in good health. Every pound of fat you lose during the exercising is a pound less for your joints to carry.

Heat and cold however, are not always enough to eliminate the pain. If necessary, it is ok to opt for prescription-free drugs. However, if you decide to ask your doctor for something stronger, remember to learn about the side effects and be very wary when you use them. The last thing you need is endangering your health because of too strong painkillers.

Osteoarthritis is an extremely painful form of arthritis in the joints. There are prescription medications available to help sufferers cope. There are also natural medicines used to reduce the severity of the pain. However, as of right now there is no cure. One of the best ways to deal with osteoarthritis is to make changes in your life that can diminish the affects of the disease.

Strengthen and Stretch Your Muscles and Joints

Regular exercise is the most effective method to help in osteoarthritis pain relief. If you stretch your muscles and build up your muscular strength, it will automatically lead to stronger joints, and the stress level on the joints is then reduced. The doctor should be consulted in order to determine which exercises will help in a particular condition.

In the beginning you can just do resistive water exercises, elastic band, free weights and exercise machines so that you can determine which osteoarthritis treatment is the best for you. Other kinds of physical therapy exercises are extremely helpful like swimming, water aerobics, walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, strengthening and stretching.

Lifestyle Changes

Consider your affected joints in your daily activity. If you suffer from osteoarthritis in your knees avoid activities that put a lot of strain on the knees. Taking special care of the affected joints will help reduce the severity of your pain. When you are required to do some activities that put strain on your affected joints get plenty of rest afterward and allow that joint to fully recover.

Heat And Cold Therapy

Alternating between hot presses and cold presses can offer great relief for osteoarthritis pain in your joints. If you are experiencing a flare up try a heating pad and then follow up with an ice pack. This is a method used by many athletic people to sooth joint pain. If you have advanced osteoarthritis more will be needed to relieve your pain.

Drugs

For severe osteoarthritis sufferers prescription anti-inflammatory medications such as Celebrex have been used to relieve pain. These can completely relieve all osteoarthritis pain. However, there are serious side effects. In 2004 some of these medications were pulled because they were proven to cause strokes and heart attacks. Another option is a milder anti-inflammatory medication that contains no steroids. However, these can not offer 100% relief from the pain that osteoarthritis sufferers experience.

by Jennifer King

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an auto immune disease, which is characterized by inflammation in the lining of the joints and only affects 1 to 2 percent of the population. Arthritis affects more women than men and the disease usually begin in middle aged individuals. However, don’t be fooled, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can also develop in children and young adults.

It doesn’t matter what age an arthritis sufferer begins to get symptoms the disease is caused by the same thing. The body’s own immune system attacks itself. Though medical knowledge till now is rather limited about the abnormal immune system response, it has at least been established that cells of the immune system travel freely all over the body. They travel through the bloodstream resulting a non-localized disease condition. The manifestation thus starts with one joint first, then spreading to other joints. In saying that, sometimes a number of different joints can suffer from pain simultaneously.

Some research concerning the early symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis has been done in hopes of finding early warning signs of the disease in the bloodstream. As the disease progresses, rheumatoid arthritis symptoms sometimes worsen to the point of joint deformity.

You may often experience significant stiffness in the morning, in and around the joints, lasting for more than thirty minutes. The joints in the fingers are the most commonly affected, and they suffer from swelling that is painful, and also prevents free movement of the hands. A warm feeling can also be felt in the affected joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can affect many other joints, such as the jaw, elbows, shoulders, feet and ankles.

Some less common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include: inflammation of the lining around the heart and lungs. Inflammation of the tear and salivary glands are other less common symptoms. Other areas of the body 9 after the joints have been suffering ) usually become affected when arthritis isn’t treated.

Because the immune system is to blame for the symptoms it doesn’t matter if the joints are weight bearing or not, they can all be affected. Also, it usually affects the smaller joints like the elbows, hands, wrists and feet. But there are quite a few exceptions to this.

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms typically come and go, sometimes over a person’s entire life span. The symptoms can be sever in worst cases, but they can also be mild top moderate. Depending on the severity of the disease and its symptoms, these will determine what you are prescribed.
